Cricket Hudson - October 2008 Pet of the Month

Cricket is a six year old Jack Russell Terrier, who lives with her proud owners/caretakers Adam Hudson and Leatha Flowers.

Captain Adam and Cricket doing what they like best!

Since moving to this area 10 years ago, Adam Hudson and his wife, Leatha Flowers have relied on Dr. Greg Winters and his team to care for their tribe of cats and dogs.

Cricket, queen of all she surveys.

Cricket hates her Santa outfit!!

A week ago, in an accident, their beloved Cricket suffered a devastating head injury from an arrow.  In the freakest of accidents, Adam, a proficient fisherman and bow hunter was target shooting when Cricket (who he thought was  inside the house) crossed directly in front of the target as he shot.

Dr. Greg waited after hours while Cricket was rushed to him, and was able to save her life.  In the tense days that followed, Dr. Greg, Dr. Tara, and all the staff were outstanding in their support, care and sympathy.  Despite the guilt Adam felt (misplaced though that was), there was never a word of reproach towards him by any of the Winter Animal Hospital staff.

The wonderful news is that thankfully, after only a week, Cricket shows every sign of making a full recovery.  Leatha indicated that Cricket has gotten a clean bill of health from Dr. Greg as of yesterday, with a follow-up skull x-ray in 6-8 weeks in order to make sure all continues to heal  well.  Leatha noted that their biggest job right now was to curtail Cricket's squirrel chasing for the near future!

After this horrible accident, Captain Adam Hudson wrote: "All of us, in this community, who love our pets, should feel blessed that we have such a team of dedicated, caring, professionals as Dr. Greg and Dr. Tera there when we need them.  Cricket and countless  other dogs that have received emergency care and surgery share that opinion!!!
